How to Set Up a Static Home Page in WordPress

A static home page in WordPress allows you to display a specific page as the front page of your website, rather than the default setting which shows your latest posts. This can give your site a more professional look, especially for business or portfolio websites. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to set up a static home page in WordPress.

Step 1: Create the Home Page

1. Log in to WordPress: First, log in to your WordPress dashboard.
2. Go to Pages: In the left-hand menu, click on Pages > Add New.
3. Create the Home Page: Title the page something like “Home” and add any content you want to display on your home page. This can include text, images, or any custom layouts you want. Once you're satisfied, click Publish.

Step 2: Create the Blog Page (Optional)

If you plan to have a blog section on your site, you’ll need to create a separate page for your posts.

1. Go to Pages: Again, go to Pages > Add New.
2. Create the Blog Page: Title this page something like “Blog” or “News” and do not add any content to it. This page will automatically display your posts. Click Publish.

Step 3: Set the Static Front Page

1. Go to Settings: In the left-hand menu, navigate to Settings > Reading.
2. Select Static Page: Under the Your homepage displays section, select the option labeled A static page.
3. Set Home and Blog Pages:
   • For Homepage, select the page you created in Step 1 (e.g., “Home”).
   • For Posts page, select the blog page you created in Step 2 (if applicable).

Step 4: Save Changes

Scroll down and click Save Changes.

Step 5: Customize the Home Page (Optional)

After setting up the static page, you can customize it further:

• Go to Appearance > Customize and select Homepage Settings. Here, you can adjust additional layout options, or add widgets if needed.
