What is an SSL certificate?

An SSL certificate (Secure Sockets Layer) is a digital certificate that establishes a secure connection between a web server and a browser. It ensures that any data transmitted between the two is encrypted and protected from unauthorized access. This is especially important for websites that handle sensitive information like login credentials, payment details, or personal data. Once an SSL certificate is installed, your website will use HTTPS instead of HTTP, indicating a secure connection. A padlock icon will appear in the browser’s address bar, signaling to visitors that the site is secure and their information is protected during interactions.
